July 19 2011Wow, I’m really bad about writing in my blog. Summer has been wonderful, but mine is almost over. I start training for my internship and graduate school August 1st so I’m wrapping up all my last minute summer projects. Aspen & Sipes is going really well. We have a full night’s worth of material learned, plus our original projects, so we are ready to gig, gig, gig! But now I have to hit the phones and get us booked which is such a drag…my least favorite part but necessary none the less. If you know any good venues we should play at, send me an email March 12 2011Busy, busy, that’s my world these days. I don’t mind it too much, I really love my work, but I am in serious need of a vacation and summer. We’re going to Vegas this year I think. I’m hoping to stay at MGM Grand, relax in the lazy river, Cirque De Soile, romantic dinners, music, lights and sound of slot machines. Rockygrass has just finalized their festival line-up and we’re hoping to camp there this year. I can’t wait to go to the lake, listen to music, read in the sun, cruise in the breeze and wakeboard. I love snow and wintertime, especially the holidays, but I only made it up snow skiing once this year, so I’m ready for a season change. The reason I’m busier than usual is that in addition to music and photography, I started graduate school last fall. No, I won’t be retiring my microphone. Music will always be my first love and priority, but I decided to get my masters in social work. I know, I know, me? Practical???? It seems hell has frozen over. But I figure it’s not a bad idea to have a little security under my belt cause in my book, less worries means more fun! Jan 20th 2011Today was so exciting! I started working with a music publisher for t.v. & film about 6 weeks ago and today he called me to tell me my song “Crazy Like That” is going to be in a Canadian t.v. show called “Heartland”. He said the show is a big hit up there and is in it’s 4th season. It will be episode #414 airing Feb 13th, on the jukebox in the diner scene. He said they licensed the entire song not just a snippet, so let’s pray that the jukebox is cranked up loud!! This is my very first placement so I’m thrilled. I’ve never really pushed my writing on publishers in the past because I wanted to record & market my own material with my own voice, but t.v. & film is a great way to record my own songs and get publicity for my own albums since it’s still my voice on the recording. My publisher says he’s submitted my songs to many projects he’s involved in right now and that this is just an “ice breaker”. Cool…I like the sound of that!! Jan 13th 2011Well, today is an awesome day because it’s the four year anniversary of my good friend Kelsey & I’s brush with death when my truck was hit full speed on I-70 shooting us up and over the rail guard, fence and down the side of a 40-foot overpass onto a busy street below. That may sound like a strange thing to celebrate for some people, but for us it was a miracle and one that we like to share with everyone. According to Kelsey, as we were falling I was screaming “Jesus, save us! Jesus, save us!” and when the car stopped rolling, we realized, he did. We were broken and bruised but for the most part, time has healed all our wounds. I could never attempt to explain why God takes some and not others, his ways are very mysterious, but I do know he was with us that day, he came to our aid when I called, and in every action I take I want to be giving back to his glory. Thank you God!
